Your outing starts with the drive up to a beautiful, new clubhouse and elegant banquet facility. Inside you will find a well-stocked pro shop with a very friendly staff to get your round started. You will also find the one trap you want to be in. Plan on sitting out on the patio at Trep's Trap to enjoy a great golf course menu while you watch the rest of the golfers finish up their day.
There are five sets of tee's so you have a choice on how long you want the course to play. You will also love the bentgrass tees, greens and fairways which usually exist only at country club courses. Don't be afraid to pop off the shoes and take a little barefoot walk on the fairway. (OK maybe that doesn't fall under the rules of golf etiquette but they felt awesome.) You will not find two holes that are alike and the course has a great mix of wooded and meadowland holes. If you would have to pick a signature hole on this course it would be the whole back nine. Holes 12 thru 18 play on the ledge overlooking the city and the view is just beautiful. There are plenty of water hazards and sand traps. A little advice, bring lotion for the beach. There seemed to be a trap for every shot but they were well maintained with quality sand and fairly easy to play out of. Make sure you check out the bullfrogs in the pond on the 9th hole. They are huge. We asked someone in the pro shop if they had them imported and he said "Nope, they are natural, but someone put some bass in there and you should see the size of the one that eats them bullfrogs!"
Whispering Springs Golf Club is walkable, and the fees are very reasonable for the quality of this course. The beverage cart was a little pricey but overshadowed by the experience.
