They've got the golf part figured out too, although we'd caution you that it is in no way a "pushover" course. You will be tested on every hole, and probably won't like the results on many of them. Course management does a great job of maintaining great playing conditions across the course and ownership seems to have a vested interest in its success, unlike its Polk City neighbor.
It is an 18-hole par 72 golf course, a Jeff Brauer design, with bent grass tees, greens and fairways. Golf Digest loves it, which you can tell by the green fee, but then it is packed day in and day out, (both by leagues and public play) so it appears most everyone else loves being here as well. Except perhaps beginners. It is a tough and punitive, yet beautiful, test from the first tee to the 18th green. Pay attention to your distances and ideal tee and other shot placements and do your best to maintain control of every shot. Many holes have a "safe or sorry" scorecard moment.
#1 can be an intimidating first tee shot, despite what the scorecard says. Your first shot will be safe though, wherever you hit it, so just breathe deep and swing. If you think anything other than left side of the fairway on #2 you're a fool. What a beautiful but deadly hole. Determine how far you need to hit it to leave yourself a 130-150 yard shot and put it there... on the left. #6 is a mother of a hole and 9-11 had us ready to dial that on our phones. But perseverance is key out here. As is having a short-term memory. Perhaps even bring a pacifier. The multitude of knee-knockers and chain-curser holes here, with water coming into play on many of them, pretty much defines "Championship Course." If you've ever wondered what exactly that means... come here and play once. Two holes in you'll understand.
The Legacy should consider installing a sign at the 1st tee for all first timers and/or hackers reading merely: "suck it up." The double entendre would be most fitting.
