Just over 6400 yards, this par 71 course is located on the west side of Altoona. In its third generation of being family owned and operated since 1963, this course gives you a “play in 4 ½ hours” guarantee. With some of the nicest staff around, the people at this course are happy you’re there and are more than willing to help you out.
With only a few signatures holes throughout the course the “Hack-ability” factor on this course is pretty high. A golfer can spray tee-shots on nearly every hole, miss greens, rarely have to hit out of bunkers but still score pretty well. The difficulty level is pretty low, which can give the average golfer a much lower score than normal at this course. Overall a hacker can have a great experience here.
At around 205 yards, the par 3 number 8 is one of their signature holes on the front nine. Definitely think about clubbing-up to this uphill green surrounded by large trees in the back also guarded by a large pond in front. You’ll watch your ball roll right into the water if you miss short or have a tough chip shot missing long. So maybe just hit it in the hole?
Number 14 is also a par 3 with a length of around 204 yards from the tips. While the front nine signature hole was uphill, this back nine signature hole is all downhill but tightly tucked next to another pond. Missing anywhere but the middle of the green can cause problems.
Although, the course was hit hard by flooding, major improvements to fairways, fringes and some green-areas are a must. Cart paths are limited throughout the course, which can make for a bumpy ride, but you’ll hear the average Hacker tell you, “I can shoot well here.”
