This gem of a course was built as a nine-hole course in 1993, and was expanded to an 18 hole course just three years later. The course is carved out of one of the many pine forests in Northern Wisconsin, with the trees coming into play on numerous holes, which require some strategy (and some luck) in the placement of your shots.
The signature hole at St. Germain is a gorgeous 373 yard par 4 that has an elevated tee box. You look over the fairway and you see not only one big pond, but two ponds guarding the fairway, one on each side. Don't let the ponds mess with you though, the fairway is still rather large and once you are in the fairway the dogleg will allow you a nice manageable shot into the green.
The course was in amazing shape, and with the right amount of bunkers and ponds it definitely makes for a beautiful and memorable round. Everyone from the greenskeepers to the marshals were very friendly on the course, adding many tips on how to play the golf course and historical information relevant to its current existence and state.
The only real area we'd suggest they improve was the sand in the bunkers. The sand in some areas had some small growth and rocks /gravel, but that was the only blemish that stuck out on this well known, and well maintained, golf course.
The St. Germain Golf Club is definitely a golf course that should be on your "bucket list" of courses in the state of Wisconsin. With the combination of the great north woods, friendly staff and terrific golf course design and maintenance, it is definitely worth however far you go to get here!
