Once you get to the 1st hole you have plenty of tee box options. There are 6 sets of tees on all 27 holes. They are well groomed and flat. From the black championship tees to the yellow junior tees there is a length and skill level to fit everyone. I would recommend to be wary of the blue tees unless you're more about the challenge of golf than the enjoyment of the game. As far as the black tees, they look like they are for people who enjoy punishment! The first hole also has a very unique feature - 2 greens! No not two holes sharing a huge green (which is the case on holes 12 and 14 that share a green). Two greens. A seriously novel concept! There's a green over the lake for the guys and a separate one along side the lake for the ladies.
Hole 7 also offers something you don't often see. The 150-yard marker is a sign sticking up out of the marsh you have to lay-up short of off the tee. Then carry the marsh with a healthy 2nd shot. In the middle 9 holes 13 and 18 were heavily guarded by water and especially challenging. The third nine also has plenty of challenges. The road noise is much more noticeable on this nine. Being near the interchange of two major highways does have some downside. Holes 20, 22, 26, and 27 all have water in just the right places. Hole 27 was a favorite, a nearly 400 yard par 4 that turns hard to the right. Before you think about cutting the corner over the lake, think twice. If you are the type who likes to give it a rip over the water you better have extra balls.
After the round, a great meal awaits at a nice restaurant that has a feel like a sports bar. For the expensive course feel without the expensive price, Rolling Meadows is a course for all levels.
