The course is a little off the beaten path but well worth the trip. The drive into the course is down a windy rustic road that leads you to the parking lot directly attached to the clubhouse. The clubhouse has an awesome up north lodge feel and the pro shop is conveniently located as you enter. The pro shop is well stocked and staffed with friendly people to assist you in your round. The bar and dining area are located right outside the entrance to the pro shop, and the staff there was very friendly and quickly provided us with our beverage before we headed out. The snack and beverage prices were very reasonable.
Pine Hills has excellent practice facilities. The driving range, practice green, and chipping area are all easy access from the clubhouse and very well cared for. Once you have warmed up and are ready to play the trip to the first tee and the first hole itself will set the tone for the round. Although you could walk the course, the downhill and uphill holes will be a bit of a physical challenge. The whole course winds through the hills and valleys and is as picturesque as it is fun to play. Most of the course is pretty forgiving of errant shots, but there are a handful of dog legs, and narrow holes that you have to be a little more accurate with. There are not many side by side holes so you don't have to worry much about other golfers. Pace of play is pretty much up to you. No pushing, no cutting. Relaxing.
We'd recommend you plan to stay for dining after your round. The atmosphere in the lodge is awesome and the food choice, as well as the service is excellent. The course is part of the Mohican Nation and is a short drive from their casino. Your round comes with casino cash for the North Star Mohican Casino and they have play and stay packages available.
A round here is definitely recommended. It has its challenges, is very rustic, and plays well. I definitely look forward to playing it again.
