Before heading to the course, call ahead for a good time to play as green fee deals are readily available (with a special deal for most days) keeping the course quite busy at times. The newly built clubhouse/restaurant is a big home for a small, good-natured staff, though finding them (and the pro-shop) can be more difficult than finding a ball lost in the woods. Having someone with you who knows the layout will be a large advantage, as most signs here are not specific enough for a first-timer to immediately understand where to go. Another handy friend to bring along would be a green repair tool, as greens are very hacker friendly speed-wise, but a bump or twenty may need fixing before your ball rolls true. I would also highly recommend a cart for the course, as there are a few long walks between holes and several 30-50 foothills which are visually exhilarating but physically draining.
One of the most rewarding (and confusing) holes is the par 4 sixth, as one must know where to aim in order to avoid disaster. "Our own version of 'the Green Monster'" quoted the local golf pro. This straightforward hole ascends quickly in one enormous wall of deep rough and is the only blind tee shot on the course. When hit with a somewhat accurate and long drive, it can prove to be a "home-run" hole. Hitting a long drive moving right to left over the middle of the hill will land a ball close to or on the green for an eagle opportunity. But better to be too far to the right (in the only sand trap) than to pull the ball too far left, however, as the thickest trees await any "duck-hook" specialists.
All in all, the course is well worth the pay. Beat up but scenic. It' an economic combination with challenging golf making for an affordable and mostly relaxing time for any person, golfer, hacker or whatever you feel like calling yourself when you're there. On this course, one good or bad shot will change a hole (and your scorecard) very quickly. Just keep a positive attitude and hack away.
