The course was established in 1927, and one of its claims to fame was hosting the 1962 Wisconsin State PGA Championship. It features a classic design with typically small greens and a compact layout. Tees are generally only a few steps from the previous greens. A very walkable course with flat terrain and no elevation changes. The Little River meanders along the northern borders of the course and comes into play only occasionally, most notably on shots that go over the green. Little River is not all that difficult - it tends to lean towards a recreational, enjoyable golf experience rather than exhausting ordeal. Hole #11 was certainly the exception - a 507 yard par 5 that requires two good shots just to reach the corner of the dogleg left. Aim for the large tree on the far side of the dogleg on your 2nd shot to get the best angle for your approach over the river that crosses the fairway about 120 yards from the green. Hole #8 is a pretty little par 3 over a bend in the river that, according to the scorecard, is 115 yards from the white tees, but seemed to play much shorter than that.
Little River's practice facilities include a putting green, chipping area and a unique driving range that includes heated practice hitting areas where golfers can work on their swings during the winter months. Once the snow melts, the course collects the 50,000+ balls that were hit onto the range.
The pro shop is well-stocked with equipment and apparel. The clubhouse includes a bar and grill area, plus a more formal area that caters to weddings and banquets. A large stone patio area off the back side of the clubhouse includes a fireplace and looked like a great spot to relax. The clubhouse staff was personable and readily offered information about their facility.
Little River CC is about an hour north of Green Bay and is the only public course in Marinette. If you're in the vicinity or heading up to the UP via Highway 41, consider a stop at this course for a pleasant round of golf.
