Indianhead's layout has a nice flow to it, with gently rolling fairways and greens with interesting contours. The front nine is fairly wide open and has a nice mix of hazards, including large ponds on five holes. Hole #6 is a picturesque par 3 over one of those ponds with a fountain in the middle. A berm on the back side of the green acts as a backstop that will keep your ball in play should you go a little long. The hole is only 134 yards from the white tees, but you might want to take an extra club to make sure to clear the water. The back nine is much tighter with thick, wooded areas bordering most of the fairways. The trees on the back offer a natural wind break on windy days. This is the more scenic of the nines but also more of a challenge to keep your ball in play.
Although the scorecard lists four sets of tees, the yellow and red tees are identical - same tee position and same length. We found this to be a bit odd. But the other tees are nicely spaced and accommodate golfers of varying skill levels. The fairways, greens and sand bunkers were all in good condition and helped to make our round enjoyable. We used power carts during our visit, but the course is very walkable and we could just as easily have played the course on foot. The 1st and 10th tees, as well as the practice area, are all short distances from the clubhouse and parking lot.
