TOTAL SCORE out of 1000

Greystone Golf Club, located just north of Sauk Centre, Minnesota, opened its doors in 2000. Designed by Tom Lehman, this course is a premium course rivaling the Brainerd Lakes courses in playability and enjoyment at a significantly more modest cost.

The facility layout is very convenient with the upscale clubhouse next to the putting green area and the driving range. As you move to the 1st tee you are looking over a sea of grass that has 18 uniquely designed holes placed within it. You can choose from four different tee boxes with yardage ranging from 5395 yards to 7059 yards. Being hackers, we chose the platinum tees, which are 5880 yards and carry a slope rating of 126. Greystone is a Scottish links-style course with water hazards and bunkers dispersed generously around the course. The fairways are liberal, the holes are well-marked and electric carts move you around quickly. Carts are recommended as some holes have lengthy distances between greens and tee boxes. The greens are not exceptionally fast-at least not on the day we played-but they have a variety of contour, and some holes have several levels. The signature hole is #17. From the elevated tee box you are looking down at a green protected by a moat, which gives no place to bail out for any golfer, let alone a hacker. Our distance was 109 yards; reachability is not the issue. Moving to #18, a 361-yard par 4, you have views of Big Sauk Lake as you work your way down to the final green. Accuracy is a must to score well on all of the holes, but recovery from errant shots is possible because of the open nature of this primarily links-style course. The semi-private Greystone Golf Club has the feel of a premium course, but the regular prices are very mid-range and specials abound. This course is clearly worth the extra drive; it's one you will want to play again and again.
