Reaching the first tee you find the "Signature" hoel of the course. From the tee box to the fairway is about a hundred foot drop. The first hole, like the rest of the course, is very hacker friendly with wide fairways and forgiving rough. We'd suggest you not slice the ball when you play here. Once you leave you can go back to slicing. A straight tee shot on #1 can lead to a birdie.
Eagle Bluff doesn't aerate. They are "au natural" explaining the added distance to drives finding the fairway. So we heard. On the other hand, it made approach shots and landing on the green tricky. Short was always better which was somewhat frustrating. The greens were fast and cut short, even too short in areas.
One of Eagle Bluff's greatest attributes is its Junior Golf access. If you enjoy watching and teaching your youngsters to enjoy the game, Eagle Bluff is a great place for them to learn.
The course is kind to the hacker in all of us. Grip and rip away on most tees. The members and locals were quite friendly and provided a valuable tip for #2: "Split the goal posts." Admittedly it was somewhat confusing advice, until we saw the two trees in the distance forming a near perfect goal post. Then we understood and tried to heed their advice.
All in all, Eagle Bluff has a great deal of room for improvement, but they do have reasonable green fees, in particular for those learning the game. We all have to start somewhere. Apparently many begin at Eagle Bluff.
