A twenty five minute jog to the northeast of the cities on Interstate 35 will get you to the city of Lino Lakes, Minnesota, where Chomonix Golf Course sits about two miles off the highway. Part of a regional park reserve, it is clear throughout your round that Chomonix was built into the existing environment. Tall, mature trees constitute the biggest defense against those who spray the ball, while water works its way into play on a very manageable 7 of the 18 holes.
The course does a great job off the bat of giving golfers a chance to build up a head of steam playing the first few tees. Number one plays as a very straightforward and scoreable par 4, which leads into a subtle dogleg par 5 with a very attackable putting surface. If golfers can start out with a couple decent holes, he/she should be able to carry themselves through the rest of the front nine. Golfers can expect whatever number ends up getting posted on that front will increase on the back. Playing to a total just less than 6600 yards, Chomonix presents itself very fairly as far as distance goes. Eight out of the ten par 4s come in at under 390 yards, and no par 5s are overbearingly long. As a hacker-friendly course should, the majority of the time, Chomonix offers golfers a safe out for most shots. No 240-yard carries over water can be found, and real estate to the other side of the fairway seems to come more freely when water does come into play. Bottom line, Chomonix plays like a city course should, and that is right up the alley of an average golfer. Scoring is fair, the prices are right, and the course isn't going to punish any more than you allow it to. As far as getting in your strokes at a comfortable level of play goes, there isn't a whole lot of bad to say about Lino Lakes Chomonix Golf Course.
