Briggs Woods is a beautiful course in North Central Iowa. Rolling hills and mature trees offer a pristine setting with amazing value for any golfer. The layout, feel, and flow of the course could be mistaken for a Robert Trent Jones design. The clubhouse has a cabin feel and fits in perfectly with the surroundings, and is often filled with locals that will warmly welcome visitors.

Maintenance staff is constantly grooming the fairways and meticulously keep tee boxes and greens in great shape. With an amazing sense of pride for the course the superintendent is often seen working along side other staff manicuring the grounds, cart paths, and other golf facilities, a bit more emphasis could be put on the bunkers though.

A fairly open front 9 provides a good warm up, the back 9 takes a turn and an "A" game focus is an asset, with a stretch of 4 holes (13, 14, 15, and16) that inspired T-shirts in the clubhouse proudly proclaiming "You have to have balls to play our back 9". The par 4, 13th requires either a 175 yard lay-up or a 220 yard to get over the water. Either way keeping it straight is essential, with OB on the right and trees along the left. For the second shot, landing anywhere other than the same tier of the green as the hole will result in an unwelcome adventure. Don't go right, don't go left, don't go short, don't go long; is the advice the guide book states for the 168 yard par 3, 14th. Similar to the 13th, the par 4, 15th requires a 175 yard lay-up, or a 220 yard straight drive to carry the water, this will give you a 150-100 yards to the green, but be sure to keep it to the left side of the fairway. The par 4, 16th has a 60 foot surprise, enough said.

A wide open forum on the top level of the clubhouse includes a full service bar, and food service upon request, and pro-shop. On the lower level, small locker rooms and a walk-out banquet room boasts the outdoor Par Bar.

Briggs Woods offers several "signature" holes that do not disappoint and will keep any golfer coming back for another round. Local golfer Ron Z. said, "For a public course, in a small town, it just doesn't get any better."
