White Birch is easy to find and, compared to many other championship courses in the area, is less expensive to play. Play and Stay packages, guest rates and twilight opportunities make it even more affordable. The clubhouse is attractive and well stocked with a large pro shop and the beautiful adjoining Antlers Restaurant. The clubhouse staff is reduced in the fall and seemed a bit abrupt and matter-of-fact when we visited, but otherwise they were efficient and courteous. You'll find the course well maintained and scenic. The front and back nines are different, with the back being longer and more picturesque. The fairways and greens were in good condition and there are four tee boxes to choose from. Many of the greens are severely sloped and pin placement is very important-three putts are not unusual. In late fall when we visited, there was no starter, ranger or beverage cart and the portable bathrooms were few and far between, but in the peak summer season these things are readily available. Aside from the golf, Breezy Point Resort is famous for its expansive grounds, an impressive beach that fronts Pelican Lake, a big marina, tennis courts and an ice arena about a mile away. In winter, the resort is transformed, with skiing, skating, tubing, ice fishing and other outdoor activities in abundance. Rolling terrain and water features (both natural and man-made) create some beautiful holes and the course itself is very playable for a hacker. While Whitebirch can't match the level of design and maintenance of some of the neighboring courses, it is a reasonable and enjoyable alternative. The Play and Stay packages make Breezy Point Resort a great home base from which to explore the many golf courses along the Paul Bunyan Trail.
