Located on the north shore of Lake Bemidji, Bemidji Town & Country Club is the jewel of northwestern Minnesota. The view from the #9 green looks over the clubhouse and down on Lake Bemidji. This has to be one of the most beautiful vistas on any course in Minnesota.
The course is easy to get to-it's just north of the city of Bemidji, across the road from Lake Bemidji and Lake Bemidji State Park. If the course has a negative, it would be the hill one must climb to get from the parking lot to the clubhouse. However, golfers who rent a cart can check in and drive the cart down to get their clubs. There is a driving range and two practice greens, one for chipping and the other for putting. Range balls are $5 per bag. Lessons with the golf pro are $45 for a 45-minute lesson. Prices for rounds seemed about average for this area: weekdays $47, weekends $50 and twilight $30, with carts at $16 per person. The clubhouse has a bar and restaurant with a full menu and is very popular for weddings and meetings. The staff is very professional. The food is second to none, and the restaurant also has that magnificent view of the lake. Out on the course water comes into play on four holes, but as hackers we did not find those holes to be too threatening. There are 37 well-maintained sand traps on the course, but if you are accustomed to the white sand on some courses, you would be disappointed here. The main hazards are the many trees that line the fairways. The rough has been cut low under the trees, however, so you can still get out even though you may have to punch out and lose a stroke. The greens are in very good condition and seem quite fast, especially if you are used to playing a course not maintained as well. The fairways are also in top condition and very easy to hit from. We thoroughly enjoyed playing at Bemidji Town & Country Club; one of the best in northern Minnesota!
