Golfers of any age and skill level will find something at Airport National that suits them. Airport is a 27-hole executive course with a plethora of par 3's among several well designed par 4s and a lone par 5 on the third nine. The original 18 plays to a par of 63 and a total length of 4040 yards. Don?t let the short course length fool you though. There are some very challenging holes here.

Hole 15, for instance, requires a tee shot to an elevated green approximately 40 feet above tee box level. This hole lists at 162 yards from the white tees, but plays closer to 180. The best way to approach this hole would be for golfers to hit a 6 or 7-iron and tee the ball up slightly higher than normal so they achieve the high loft necessary to reach the green in one shot.

There are a few other challenging holes, but golfers should find plenty of good scoring chances on the rest of the course. Most of the fairways are wide open and the hazards only come into play on really poor shots. One of the negatives to Airport is that there are very few trees separating fairways from each other. This increases the chance of golfers getting hit by stray shots from adjacent holes.

The 3rd nine contains Airport?s only par 5, a few water hazards, and a massive green shared by holes 23 and 26. This shared green concept is neat, but this nine feels lacking. Airport would definitely benefit from adding a few fairway and greenside bunkers to this stretch in order to help beginning and intermediate players improve their course management and shot making abilities.

Beverage cart service is frequent and the choices are many and inexpensive. This seems to be the theme in the clubhouse as well. The pro shop spans the entire length of the clubhouse and can get a bit crowded at times, but there is a good mix and vast quantity of reasonably priced items.

Golfers not wanting play the course can also take advantage of Airports massive driving range and a surprisingly difficult yet fun miniature golf course.

"Overall, Airport is a good value because it's easy enough that I still have fun here even though I'm terrible at golf," said one of the locals who began golfing for the first time in his life this summer.

Not sure how anyone could rate this course as easy... If you can putt and chip, you may be able to shoot par or better. If you can't putt and chip, then you better bring a 6-pack because it will get frustrating.

This course has the BEST greens around the area - I would even say within a 80 mile radius. Greens are well kept, read true and great speed for a small "country" style golf course.

The atmosphere is great, except for the occasional foursome - which you have at every course. The staff is awesome, hands down best staff in the Cedar Rapids area (including the two country clubs). Always friendly, eager to help and provide great conversation while having a bite to eat or a beverage after the round.

The Pros, Mark/Matt/Ross are phenomenal instructors and are very tuned in with how to make their student's golf games better. If you have a junior golfer who is interested in the sport and wants to start, be sure to sign them up in the Junior Schools available early summer.

If you have 3 hours to spare, go see the gang at Airport National. They are sure to make your experience memorable and exciting.

Not sure how this course got such a low conditions rating. It is always one of the best kept courses in town!
